Build a Boys Dorm

“We are running to raise funds and create real space for hope.”

In 1989 a Children’s Home, now supported by Child of Mine, was established on the grounds of a remote and abandoned leprosy hospital in Northern India. Children are taken from desperate situations and allowed to grow up in a loving community and family setting. They are given an education, including post secondary, so they can make a difference in their communities and the lives of the people they interact with. 

Over the years many of the buildings have been improved and most of the cow dung and mud plaster walls have been repaired. That said, the boys are still living in the original 100 year old buildings and providing them with a new dorm has been a dream the staff and children have held for many years. We are excited to announce that through the tremendous support of partners like you, this project is now underway!

Last year, as a team we raised about $25,000 of the $600,000 needed to build the boys a new dorm! This money, along with the $260,000 raised through other fundraising efforts, helped kick start the project into action!

 Thanks to each of you who participated and supported us last year for your generosity. The children’s home is located in the rolling foothills of the Himalayas and consequently large retaining walls needed to be built before the foundation could be poured. Those walls are now almost complete and footings will be poured soon!

This year, we are bringing an even greater challenge and hoping to raise $30,000 through our run/walk at the BMO Marathon on May 5^th. This annual event offers 4 challenging courses: the full marathon, marathon relay, half marathon and 8k. Each member of Team Child of Mine is training for one of these races and raising financial support for the new boys dorm.
