The Waterloo region has declared intimate partner violence (IPV) to be an epidemic, joining hundreds of regions across the country who have done the same.
The statistics on IPV are staggering:
- 44% of all women experience some kind of physical, sexual, or psychological violence
- from 2009 to 2022, Canadian women and girls accounted for 79% of all IPV homicides
-Indigenous women are 8 times more likely to be killed by their male partner than non- Indigenous women, even though they make up only 5 percent of the Canadian population.
The United Sisterhood is group of women who are coming together to raise awareness and provide support for IPV survivors and their children. Every dollar we raise will bring hope, safety, and new beginnings to those who need it most in our community.
