North Bay & District Multicultural Centre

about

Our Mission

The North Bay & District Multicultural Centre is a non-profit bilingual charity serving the settlement needs of new immigrants and refugees from Parry Sound to James Bay and Mattawa to Verner. We support the full, equal and valued participation of newcomers in all aspects of community life. We foster mutual respect and understanding through education and cultural sharing.

About North Bay & District Multicultural Centre

Our mandate is to assist and support new immigrants and refugees.  We help newcomers adjust to living in Canada. All our services, except translations and interpretation, are free.

The North Bay & District Multicultural Centre was founded by Young People's Press and evolved from the work of the North Bay Newcomer Network, spearheaded by the Mayor's Office of Economic Development. It became a reality January 1, 2008 and is a reflection of the changing face of the city. The official opening of the centre was February 22, 2008.

In 2011 we opened a second office in Timmins, the Timmins & District Multicultural Centre (www.timminsmuliticultural.ca). Between the two offices, some 400 kilometres apart, we serve newcomers from Parry Sound District in the south to James Bay in the north, including the Districts of Nipissing, Timiskaming and Cochrane. We also operate the Local Immigration Partnerships in North Bay and Timmins.

Municipalities that we serve include Parry Sound, Port Loring, Sundridge, South River, Trout Creek, Powassan, Callander, North Bay, Astorville, Corbeil, Bonfield, Rutherglen, Mattawa, West Nipissing, Temagami, Cobalt, Temiskaming Shores, Earlton, Englehart, Matachewan, Kirkland Lake, Black River-Matheson, Timmins, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, Hearst, Kapuskasing, Chapleau and the James Bay region.

Our office provides information and referral services for all aspects of immigrant support and provides a computer, photocopier, telephone and fax service for immigrants wanting to do their own research. We provide paid interpretation services and translation on a fee for service basis.
