Black History Month was created to celebrate the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It has expanded to honour all Black people beginning from the early periods of U.S. history; the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans/Africans and Blacks living in all parts of the world today.
The theme "Black Resistance and the Arts" for Black History Month signifies a deliberate focus on exploring the powerful intersection between artistic expression and the ongoing struggle for justice, equality, and liberation within the Black community. This theme recognizes the historical and contemporary role that the arts play in fostering resistance, resilience, and empowerment.
