The time has come to bring the longhouse home.
For generations, the Wabanaki peoples have gathered in sacred spaces to share teachings, hold ceremony, and care for one another through every season of life. Today, we are answering the call to restore that way of being by building a permanent longhouse on Mi’kmaw homelands - a place of belonging, healing, and cultural resurgence.
Led by Wapna'kikewi'skwaq - Women of First Light, this longhouse will be the heart of a rematriated gathering place: one rooted in Indigenous governance, ceremony, and kinship. Designed with the guidance of Elders, knowledge keepers, youth, and community members, it will hold 100 people comfortably and include space for feasting, fire-keeping, and rest.
This is more than a building - it is a return. A return to the land. A return to our ways. A return to each other.
Your donation supports:
-Construction of a fully accessible longhouse with an east-facing ceremonial entrance, kitchen, and sleeping space for Elders and helpers
-Gathering infrastructure for cultural events, youth rites of passage, and intergenerational healing
-Land-based programming rooted in Mi’kmaw and Wabanaki traditions
-The rematriation of the former Tatamagouche Centre into Taqamiju’jk Lodge, a place of spiritual renewal and community care
We invite you to stand with us as we bring the longhouse home - for our ancestors, our children, and the next seven generations.
