Aperçu

WHAT? The ESSEX CENTURION SOLO CYCLING CHALLENGE is a free physically distanced event that's enjoyed by ages 12-76 and cyclists with varying abilities from cautious intermediate to confident expert.

HOW? Register, ride it (all within 24 hours or over as many days as you want) and then email proof of your ride.

WHEN? May 1 - Oct 3, 2021

2021 EC Way 100 Mile Course Loop [CLICK HERE]

It’ll be free again this year, but we hope participants will consider voluntarily making a donation to help raise funds for SpEqTRA [about SpEqTRA CLICK HERE], a wonderful local therapeutic equestrian riding charity that’s doing great stuff for youth, children and others from all across the region. COVID-19 may have temporarily closed their doors to the public - but their horses still need to be cared for, sheltered and fed. They're a small operation so every dollar raised will have a meaningful impact. Please take 6 minutes to watch SpEqTRA's video in the Media Section located lower down on this page. Thank you.

There will be a matching contribution for each dollar raised up to $1,000.

Whether you're registering or not, you can easily donate by simply clicking on the "ENTER DONATION" bar above and following the instructions.

DO THE EVENT AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT! Last year, the top number of laps biked by a crazy cyclist was 15. That's over 1,500 miles!

Ride responsibility and stay within your limits . Roadway conditions are ever changing. Participants are self-supported and bear full responsibility for their own safety.

HOW? Do all 100 miles in a day or over multiple days from May 1st and Oct 3rd. [CLICK HERE] for multi-day ideas.

WHEN & WHERE? Pick your date(s) & start anywhere along the route - provided it's on the EC Way 100 or another route that's accepted.

WHY?

1. Fundraising for a great cause - SpEqTRA, an Equestrian Therapeutic Riding Association. Riding! How perfect is that?! COVID-19 may have temporarily closed their doors to the public but their horses still need to be cared for, sheltered and fed. They're a small operation. Every dollar raised will have a meaningful impact.

2. To Challenge Yourself! A solo challenge to help fill in the event gap caused by COVID-19 restrictions.

3. Accessibility. Over 80% of the population of Windsor & Essex County live within 1-5k of the EC Way 100 bike route. There are lots of restaurants, breweries, wineries, fruit & vegetable stands, charming shops, waterfront beaches and green spaces to be found along the EC Way 100.

4. Discover a Continuous 100 Mile Bike Route Loop which knits together peaceful neighbourhood streets, calm country roads and some of the region's stellar bike facilities on a route that's been carefully selected and colour-code mapped to meet the comfort level expectations of most cyclists.

EMAIL A VALID RIDE REPORT to sharetheroadessexcounty@gmail.com within 2 weeks following the month-end to be identified as an Essex Centurion finisher and for a chance to win a monthly draw prize, including:

1. Registered Rider Name;

2. Ride Date(s) and time of completion. (If completed over multiple days, note each section completed by dates and mile markers); and,

3. Ride Proof (EITHER attach four photos showing rider with a notable landmark in the background from each 25 mile segment of the 100 mile loop OR email a link to your GPS record(s).)

Ride reports received will be acknowledged to confirm receipt.

PRIZES & POINTS: Essex Centurions will have the chance to win one $25 gift card from participating local bike shops. There’ll be a draw following June, July, August & September.

1 Pt for each 100 mile loop (or accepted variation); +1 Pt (total 2 Pts - 100 on same date); +2 Pts (total 6 pts) for a Double Imperial Crown (200-in-24 hours); and, +4 Pts (total 12 pts) for a Triple Imperial Crown (in 24 hrs).

Overall point winner's name will be added to the Essex Centurion Champion plaque sponsored by the Banded Goose Brewing Company. The 2021 Points Champion and Loop Leader Champ will be recognized followed the completion of the challenge.
