Dr. Benjamin Leis is an Internal Medicine physician and Cardiologist with a Masters in Health Sciences. He recognizes the crucial role of social determinants of health in predicting patient outcomes. His academic focus is system improvement to address poor health care access driven by inequality. He believes that our public health crises, including homelessness, can only be tackled with increased awareness.
“I am humbled by the invitation to participate in this year's Sanctum Survivor to experience for 36 hours what many of our fellow Saskatoon citizens consider their "normal". My hope is that this experience will further sensitize me to the barriers my patients face to accessing adequate care. Indeed, we cannot hope to fix what we do not understand.
