n 1947, the 10-year-old John “Dub” Elliott ran away in his first attempt to escape the sadness, cruelty and abuse he endured at the Mohawk Institute Residential School ‘Mush Hole”. He travelled an estimated 20 kms back to his home on Six Nations. During his life at the Mush Hole, he ran away approximately 35 times; upon his return received harsh punishment.
Mohawk Village Memorial Park will be having a charity walk “Run Away from the Mush Hole” in honor of all children who were students of the Mushhole.
