The HSGN is committed to the humane treatment of all animals and actively cares for animals and people across the Niagara Region. We take in over 3,000 animals each year and are adopting cats to forever homes for a reduced rate, to ensure every cat finds a forever home.

The HSGN provides humanitarian support for pets where owners need assistance due to: homelessness, domestic violence, mental health or other health concerns and for those seeking medical attention due to Covid-19.

With very limited funding to support many of our programs, the HSGN needs your financial support to continue this important work. Your gift will truly help the animals in our care. On behalf of our Board, staff and volunteers - thank you for your kind contribution to the animals.

In yards and alleys, fields, parks and forests, dogs, cats and other animals in Niagara suffer and die of cold, sickness, starvation and encounters with cars and other animals. Tragically, too many of them once knew the loving touch of a human hand and the warmth of a real home. Until, they were abandoned by their humans and left to fend for themselves.

Animal abandonment is a serious issue and it happens too often. Despite what some believe, it isn’t natural for domestic animals to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, we see the heartbreaking impact of this type of neglect too frequently. Dogs, cats and other animals depend on humans for food, shelter and love.

At the HSGN we are at the frontline of preventing these tragedies. But as a charitable organization, much of our humane work is funded by donations, and we count on you to help us save the lives of innocent and vulnerable animals.

The HSGN makes every effort to reunite pets and owners. But when owners cannot be found, we find new people to provide a caring and loving home for the animals that come to our shelter.

Adopted into their forever homes in 2022Of over the 1100 cats we received at the shelter in 2022, only 130 of them were claimed by their owners. The remaining 981 found themselves a new home!

Spay and Neuter your cats! Niagara has a stray and feral cat over-population issue and you can help by making sure your cats are spayed or neutered.

Small animal adoptionsWe have many small animals like bunnies, gerbils, hamsters, budgies and more that are available for adoption at the shelter. In 2016 we adopted out over 100 of these wonderful little creatures.

The HSGN takes in over 6,000 animals in any given year. Some are reunited thier owners, most get adopted, and many of the wildlife are returned to their natural habitat or the safety of a sanctuary.
