WELCOME TO OUR HOME!
We are Here for You
Living with a life-threatening illness or providing care for a loved one as they near end-of-life, can be very difficult. At Hill House Hospice we are here for you. We provide, at no cost – thanks to the generosity of donors, community partners and government funding – expert medical care and compassionate hearts that focus on quality of life. At Hill House, people can live fully as possible in the final stage before death.
Our Home
For 25 years, our little red brick bungalow, on a quiet street in Richmond Hill has offered comfort to residents in their final weeks of life and bereavement support to their families. It is a home-like alternative to institutional care and in-home care. Hill House is a special place filled with love, hugs, tears and laughter.
Our home operates with a high staff-to-resident ratio, with at least one nurse and one personal support worker (PSW) working 24 hours a day for every three residents, exceeding the current staffing model of most other hospices in the Greater Toronto Area. Looking beyond the traditional medical approach, we also incorporate a variety of alternative therapies to promote holistic wellness.
Hill House was the first hospice in York Region and the second hospice to be built in the province of Ontario. Hill House is also a registered charity. Our goal is to lead by example, serving as a model for exemplary residential care in our community and right across Canada.
Our Team
The key to achieving our mission of providing the highest standard of hospice care at Hill House rests with our staff, volunteers, families, physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. The professional nursing staff and supportive PSW's are all guided and mentored by our Medical Director, Dr. Brian Berger. All members of the nursing team are specially trained in pain control and symptom management. In addition to providing direct care, this dedicated team provides emotional support to family members.
Our caring Complementary Therapists visit twice weekly to provide our residents and their families with music therapy, massage therapy, aromatherapy, reiki, therapeutic touch and reflexology. They help manage pain and symptoms, decrease anxiety, help with relaxation, create an outlet for emotional expression, provide a connection to others and help decrease any feelings of isolation.
