This event, taking place on the picturesque evening of Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, promises to be a celebration of diversity, kindness, sustainability, and appreciation for nature's pollinators.

Free Event Highlights:

  • Merienda Snacks at Sunset: Experience the magic of a light early evening meal, known as Merienda, against the backdrop of a stunning sunset at George Genereux Urban Regional Park. Bring your own snack or indulge in the delicious potluck  treats brought by fellow attendees as we come together to enjoy good potluck snacks and great company.

  • Bringing Communities Together: At the heart of the Pollinator Picnic is the belief that food has the power to unite communities. Whether you're sharing a snack with friends, family, or strangers, every bite fosters a sense of connection and belonging. Let's celebrate diversity and kindness one picnic at a time.

  • Honoring Important Observances: Our event coincides with several significant observances, including International Picnic Day, National Pollinator Week, International Day for Countering Hate Speech, Autistic Pride Day, and Sustainable Gastronomy Day. By bringing these themes together, we hope to raise awareness and promote positive change in our community.

  • Appreciation for Nature's Pollinators: Bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects play a crucial role in our ecosystem and food production. As part of the Pollinator Picnic, we invite attendees to bring a snack for their favorite pollinator, whether it be a jar of honey, a bouquet of flowers, or a simple dish made with pollinator-friendly ingredients like orange, or watermelon slices, bananas.

  • About the ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk

  • The Community Challenge is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. The challenge is open to all communities and individuals, ultimately recognizing Canada’s Most Active Community (help this be Saskatoon) and awarding it with $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives. In addition to the national winner, there is also a prize for the most active community in each province and territory as well as weekly organization prizing to be awarded throughout June.

    The ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk is proudly funded by the Government of Canada, Novo Nordisk and supporting partner, Saputo, and locally supported by ParticipACTION and TD ParksPeople.

    Engage Everyone in Saskatoon: Encourage group/business members to sign up as individuals on the ParticipACTION website. By committing to getting active throughout June, they'll not only improve their health and well-being but also contribute to our community's chances of winning.

Come out to the 326 acre Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area with all it walking trails, or to the 148 acre George Genereux Urban Regional Park. But that is not all, Be active where you are, gardening, walking the dog, adaptive yoga or modified activity to include persons with varying abilities or walking or rolling to the corner store. Get your senior’s group, sports team, place of employment registered for prizes!
