Nina Chung, Founder of Elimu will share stories and images from her recent trip to Kenya during May - July. Learn more about ...
- Our 18 high school graduates from 2022 and where they are now;
- Our youth volunteers who are becoming more marketable in a highly challenging job market through on-the-job training at Elimu Resource Centre;
- New developments at our Artisans Maker Space and how we are training rural girls for the world of fashion and design;
- Getting back to prisons with digital learning tools after pandemic lockdowns
Elimu is a registered Canadian charity working to enhance access to education so as to empower Kenyan children, youth and adults to become more enterprising in how they approach their futures.
Based in Malindi, Kenya, Elimu runs Elimu Resource Centre (ERC) – a digital hub for learners. The Centre enhances access to education, improves digital literacy in the community, and helps youth find pathways to more meaningful futures through skills development, employment planning and entrepreneurship.
Since our official registration in 2011, Elimu has helped 100 young women gain independence with their own sewing businesses; kept over 200 kids from dropping out of school and helped their parents start home-based businesses. Our Elimu Resource Centre receives up to 250 primary and high school students per day during school holidays and delivers a digital reading program to classrooms for children who may never even have held a paper textbook before.
With this year’s BBQ we are aiming to raise $8,000 towards our Youth Internship program. At Elimu Resource Centre, youth interns gain hands-on work experience critical for them to pursue their dream careers or venture into entrepreneurship. They are teaching at our Cisco Networking Academy, training our sewing students during their weekly digital lessons, and helping us take digital learning out to the community. What’s more, they are gaining valuable experience in leadership, and teamwork, and discovering their own strengths and voices.
