Hello everyone,
I will be participating in the Virtual Canadian NeuroEndocrine Tumour Society's fundraiser 'HOOFING IT' for Neuroendocrine Cancer Research. CNETS also provides education and support through conferences and support groups throughout Canada. Starting Aug.1st until Sept.8th, my husband Rob Franz and I will be adding up the kilometres each day, either biking, hiking or kayaking to raise funds and awareness.
In 2010, I was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in my right lung. Surgery to remove two lobes was hoped to be curative but in 2015 extensive metastases were found. The goal now is to keep them stable and to remain as active and healthy as possible.
In 2010 it was Maureen Coleman, founder of CNETS CANADA, that helped a shell-shocked me navigate the world of a rare cancer and supported me when I needed it the most. She connected me with other wonderful NET patients in Ottawa who helped me cope and learn about this cancer and became good friends. Sadly, NETs took those friends too soon. So in addition to teaming up with Rob, I know that Maureen, Suzanne, Sherry, Pat and Pierrette will be with us too in spirit.
With the research grants funded by CNETS Canada, hopefully one day, there will be a cure for Neuroendocrine Cancer.
Any support you can offer this fundraiser is truly appreciated.
