Zambia Volunteer Trip 2024

Three of us McElroy's are returning to Zambia on May 2nd! 

Our family was first in Zambia on a volunteer trip in 2017.  We made a strong connection with the beautiful people of Zambia, including the Baraka Community Partnerships team there.  They work so hard to galvanize local communities to build their own sustainable, self-sufficient futures. Many schools, dormitories have been built, children and teachers housed and many children are able to access education because of the great work of this team and organization.

This will be my third trip to Zambia.  After our family trip in 2017, I took my mother Ani in 2019 (she was such a trooper!) and this time, Amelie, Coco and I will be rolling up our sleeves and volunteering along side a group of other Canadians.

Our time there will be spent working with a group of Baraka sponsored university students discussing topics such as communication skills, their post university future and conducting many fun activities. We will also be visiting Baraka's Learning Centre which assists over 20 rural schools and thousands of students where some of our tasks will be focused on various infrastructure needs and supporting the teaching team.  We will end the trip by travelling to Maamba where 27 young women live in a Baraka funded safe house.  The house was set up to support them on their way out of poverty, offering a chance to pursue their dreams of education without worrying about their next meal, their personal safety or how to pay rent. 

We are fundraising to help us purchase needed materials for the project work undertaken during the trip and we would be so grateful for any support you can provide.  If we receive any excess funds, we promise that it will be distributed to one or more of the current Baraka projects!
