30 pounds lighter and Tyler has finished his journey. He is now working on his story... to tell people about how amazing the Canadian wilderness is, why also recognizing how fragile and how that fragility is creating a new reality of our forests, the creatures that live in them, and the resources that support them both are dwindling faster than one can imagine.
His hike covered 1000 kms over 40 days, straight up the middle of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in support of SPIRIT NORTH. Due to flooding and washed-out hiking networks the hike ended early... Tyler ran the last 50kms if you can believe it!
Having departed Waterton National Park, Tyler delivered a hiking adventure along the Great Divide Trail, trekking through some of the most remote and exquisite environments on the planet…and will be finishing at the foot of Canada’s highest peak, Mount Robson.
In honor of this amazing journey, The Method Effect and Chuck Bean have mounted a fundraising campaign to support Tyler’s charity pick. SPIRIT NORTH. Along the way Mike George of Steelhaus Technologies, donated a massive $5000 to support this cause. Founded and run by Beckie Scott, Canada’s most decorated cross country ski racer, SPIRIT NORTH is a national charitable organization that uses land-based activities to improve the health and well-being of Indigenous Youth.
Delivered in partnership with schools and educators, SPIRIT NORTH programs advance academic outcomes, improve attendance and support positive belief-systems around school. They also create opportunities for teachers to develop innovative curriculum around activities and enhance learning experiences in areas such as leadership and language.
Elders and family members, Indigenous advisors, local educators and community leaders all play an important role in SPIRIT NORTH programs. From mentorship and training of local community members, to unique community engagement events such as festival days and co-creation workshops, SPIRIT NORTH works to build community involvement, capacity and sustainability.
And finally SPIRIT NORTH’s unique methodology is designed for children and youth to experience healthy outdoor activity on the land, and the emotional impact that comes with it. In addition to improved physical health, SPIRIT NORTH activities promote increased feelings of confidence, joy, belonging and resilience.
A long-time dream realized. An avid outdoorsman and highly respected Calgary realtor, Tyler has been training tirelessly for what will be a story told for decades.
Tyler has been an inspiration to so many and is thankful to make his personal journey a fundraising event for Spirit North and the future opportunities that this journey will bring to Canada's Indigenous Youth!!
Please note that 100% of all contributions will be provided directly to SPIRIT NORTH.
Here at The Method Effect, we will keep you posted on his journey. Stay tuned!! https://www.themethodeffect.com/
