Why I Run: A Mission Beyond the Miles
Running has become more than just a sport for me—it’s been a path to healing, growth, and facing my own mental conditioning head-on.
I found running after losing my father, who lived with anxiety and depression for much of his life. His passing shook me, but it also inspired me. I wanted to understand his struggles, and more importantly, confront my own inner darkness in a way that honored his memory. That’s when I laced up my shoes and started running. What began as a coping mechanism quickly became a passion, and in just four years, I went from running my first marathon to pushing through 100 miles (several times) and 200 miles.
Now, I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet: Keji Backyard Ultra, where I’m aiming to complete 50 loops (yards)—that’s over 200 miles in just over 2 days.
The Format: Each loop is 6.706 km (4.167 miles), and it must be completed within the hour. Sounds simple—until it’s 2 a.m., your legs are shot, and you haven’t slept. The only finish line is when one runner is left standing.
The Goal: I’m not just doing this for me — I’m dedicating this effort to raise awareness and funds for Healthy Minds Cooperative, a cause that’s close to my heart and deeply aligned with my values around mental health, resilience, and support.
The Challenge: This race isn’t about speed. It’s about showing up again and again, even when everything in you wants to stop. It’s a test of mental strength, of enduring the quiet darkness, of choosing hope one step at a time.
How You Can Help: By donating, you’re not just supporting my race — you’re backing a movement that reminds people they’re not alone in their struggles. Every dollar fuels purpose, awareness, and support for those fighting silent battles.
Please also consider sharing to your network and join me in transforming pain into power. Let’s run towards something bigger — together.
