Due to our current physical isolation, the dangers of being in an abusive relationship have increased dramatically. This community challenge has been created to help support Fredericton women's shelters virtually raise the funds their families need to, like the rest of us, be safe at home.
Liberty Lane is a charitable organization based in Fredericton, that offers Second Stage Housing to women and their children who have left family violence. They provide a safe, affordable living environment, and support services, where individuals can begin the journey to independent living free from violence. Liberty Lane also has a Family Violence Prevention Outreach Service which is offered throughout South Western New Brunswick to all gender identities affected by family violence. Their Outreach Workers help with safety planning, Emergency Intervention Orders, provide emotional support, information and make referrals to Community Services such as counselling, etc. They need our help! Liberty Lane had to cancel their largest fundraising event due to COVID-19, which would have brought in about $25,000 desperately needed funds.
The Women in Transition House house has been a fixture in Fredericton for many years. They house up to five families at a time. In addition, when they are full, they can find hotels and apartments to keep women and children safe. They have had to cancel many of their annual fundraising events due to COVID-19 and need our support to raise enough to continue operations!
