Reason2Roam -Fundraising for Two Wheel View

What?

We are raising money for Two Wheel View because we believe in the power of youth and that a bicycle is a vehicle for change. Our goal is simple: Raise $3,000 CAD ($2,271 USD) for Two Wheel View.

Why?

We travel and cycle tour a lot. We have been fortunate to meet amazing people around the world and to see incredible places - but we also get to see many of the ills of an overpopulated planet. There are lots of wonderful international charities that support people and places over 'there' but what about those charities that support people 'here'?  

We knew we would be fundraising for the Rickshaw Run (see below) and thought we would challenge ourselves further by increasing our fundraising activities for a local organization that aligns with our beliefs. 

We have both worked extensively with youth in our past lives and we know the power a caring adult can have in helping a young person to see their own potential. We also really really like to cycle. Enter: Two Wheel View. 

Two Wheel View is a small not for profit and registered charity that operates in Calgary. Heather had the good fortune to work with them years ago professionally and she saw first hand the impact of their work. In a nutshell Two Wheel View operates “programs [that] use the bicycle as a vehicle for change for youth.” (https://www.twowheelview.org/)

How & Where?

Matt and Heather will be participating in the Rickshaw Run and challenging themselves on two self supported bicycle tours. 

The Rickshaw Run involves driving a 3 wheeled vehicle designed for everything other than what we are going to do to them. These mechanical marvels are known as Rickshaws, Tuk Tuks, and oversized lawnmowers. We will begin in NE India and finish about 3,500 kilometers later in Southwestern India. 

No set plan, no set route, no support. Sounds Ridiculous! The goal is not to be first, the goal is simply to finish. 

Our self supported bicycle tours in 2024 include three weeks in Sri Lanka and three months in Central Asia on the Pamir Highway. It will be motivating to know that as we struggle up the last hill of each day, our efforts will not only find us a safe place to camp, but also support local youth at home. 

When

We will be cycling in Sri Lanka in February 2024.

We begin the Rickshaw Run in North East India in early April and in theory arrive at the finish party twoish weeks later.  

Our Central Asia adventure begins in mid May in Georgia (the country, not the state) and from there we will head towards the second highest highway in the world: the Pamir. The route crosses Uzbekistan, Tajikstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
