Hi everyone! I'm going on a Service Trip to Guatemala this spring break to provide local Mayan children with academic and nutritional support.
Guatemala remains one of the most impoverished countries in the Americas and the Indigenous population suffers from the scarcity of opportunities and basic human necessities. The Mayas have been discriminated against for centuries and between 1960-1996, suffered a 36-year genocide of enormous proportions. The discrimination and lack of opportunities still continues today. They have been deprived of opportunities for decent education, employment, health care and a safe place to live. Providing the children with nutritious food and education creates brighter futures of generations.
All of the proceeds will go directly to a volunteer program, Project Somos, aimed at providing children with the crucial education they need. The proceeds will be used to fund new educational programs that will, one day, hopefully lift the children and their families out of poverty.
My goal is to raise $950 CAD by March 8th. Anything you can chip in will mean a lot. Thank you for your consideration!
