I am committed to working to improve every part of our communities. I regularly travel to Metrolinx project areas and learn about our diverse and wonderful region. I have been really impressed with the people I have met and the things I have seen and I am excited to be contributing in a small way to the region we call home.
The United Way is the largest non-governmental supporter of social services in the region. Their work creates opportunities for people in need and improves lives to create a better future for everyone. The United Way’s work touches thousands of people in our neighbourhoods—building community spaces, offering social and educational programs, creating job placements, supporting food banks and shelters, creating opportunities for young people and new Canadians… the list goes on.
Now, combining my love of running with Metrolinx’s annual charitable campaign, I am running 10 half-marathons over the next year to raise funds in support of the Toronto & York Region United Way. At the end of this, I will have travelled 253 kilometres—pretty much a GO Train trip from Oshawa to Hamilton and then all the way back.
I hope you will support me, be it through your generous donations or kind words, and look for other opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those around you.
Thank you!
Phil Verster
P.S. Stay tuned for updates and photos as my wife Carol and I complete events across the GTHA and beyond.
