Growing up in the Caribbean with a love for dance and ballet, I longed for the opportunity to take classes. I also always knew that a training in ballet would serve as an excellent technical foundation for many styles of dance. Unfortunately, back then it was impossible to find classes in my island, Montserrat. It still remains impossible to find instruction in some Caribbean islands today. Even where dance classes are available, the cost can be prohibitive to many dancers with potential.
For communities of African descent with limited resources, dancers are often deprived of the opportunity to pursue education. That is why I support the mission of Dance Immersion to empower dancers in the African diaspora.
If you feel the same way as I do, let us join together enable dancers across the African diaspora to learn, grow, perform, earn and teach. This is just small way that we can help dancers to overcome obstacles, thrive in their industry and continue to inspire the world.
