About Fundraiser
Fundraiser by Mr. McGinitie
For my entire teaching career, I have worn a moustache. Usually at this time, men would be starting to fundraise growing a moustache for Movember. This year however, I would like to switch things around by raising money to shave. I also would like to use this as an opportunity to support and highlight local charities that make a difference in the lives of all Calgarians. Between inflation, high costs of housing and food, as well as an ongoing opioid addiction and homelessness epidemic, everyday living for all Calgarians has been affected. Let's see our money spent in the communities where we live and work.
During this campaign, there will be donation benchmarks as follows:
$250 - Mr. Molyneux grows and shaves a moustache
$500 - Facial Hairless Mr. Hyslop
$750 - Mrs. Chorney will wear a face painted beard for a day.
$1000 - Mr. Pidkowa shaves his beard
$3000 - Mr. McGinitie shaves his moustache
$4000 - Mr. Kearney will shave off his moustache
$5000 - Mr. Finlay will shear the beard
$7000 - Mr. Jordan will shave his beard (his partner of 25 years has never seen him clean shaven)
$8000+ Hopefully more follicle'd educators to follow!
The three charities selected have very high dollar to difference ratios (e.g. 96% of donations to the Alex actually go to programs).
The Alex - Founded in 1973, The Alex (Alexandra Community Health Centre) addresses the health and social needs of low-income Calgarians. The charity recognizes that housing, nutrition, and community involvement all impact health. By focusing on preventative care, The Alex works to avoid costly health crises.
Calgary Food Bank - Founded in 1982, Calgary Food Bank is an emergency food distribution hub that collects and sends food to individuals, families, and single parents living in poverty. The charity reports that 16% of households in ten Canadian provinces experience some level of food insecurity. It aims to create a hunger-free community by fighting hunger directly and addressing its root causes through client referrals to social services. Calgary Food Bank reports that it delivered 141,206 food hampers throughout its programs in F2022.
Fresh Start Recovery Centre - Founded in 1992, Fresh Start Recovery Centre (Fresh Start) is a live-in alcohol and drug addiction treatment centre. According to the charity, 13.6% of Canadians are high-risk drinkers and 20% of these drinkers report some form of harm to themselves due to alcohol. In 2020, Fresh Start acquired South Country Treatment Centre and expanded its operations to treat both men and women in Calgary and Lethbridge, Alberta. Fresh Start's focus is a 14 to 16-week addiction treatment program. The charity recognizes that for recovery to be successful, family and friends must also heal. Hence, Fresh Start also offers a Family Healing Program to support those related to an addict. Its head office is in Calgary, AB.
Donations over $25 are eligible for a tax receipt which is issued by E-mail when you make a donation.
