Fundraiser by John Luke Kieper
Former BC-born Big Brother contestant John Luke Kieper is back for his toughest challenge yet.
He is competing in a reality TV, pay-per-view boxing match, which includes stars from shows like Netflix’s “Too Hot to Handle,” “The Circle,” and more. In total, the competitors at the event have over 3 million social media followers from all over North America and Europe.
JLK is using the bout as a chance to raise funds and awareness for mental health, something he has struggled to control for much of his life. He is raising the money for three Canadian Mental Health Association branches in the province with hopes of raising over $5,000.
“As someone who has been on medication, seen counsellors and not always handled his mental health in the healthiest way, I think using the fight as a chance to raise money for a good cause is an absolute knockout,” said Kieper.
Kieper chose the Kamloops, Kelowna and Vancouver locations of the CMHA as they are all cities he has called home for extended periods of time. To this point, he has raised just over $2,500 through CanadaHelps.org.
The top donors will be given space on his walkout robe for their logo, name or anything they desire to show they too support mental health. He will wear the robe prior to his fight for all the viewers to see.
”It’s okay not to be okay. Mental Health can affect anyone at any time, no matter what your circumstances are. It is so important to keep the discussion going and this is the best way I believe I can do that.”
The fight takes place at the Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary, Alta, on Jan 22, 2022. Kieper will be taking on Renan Hellmans, a Belgium resident who appeared on MTV’s “Ex on the Beach” as well as “The Challenge.”
“Now feels more important than ever to talk about mental health, especially with how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting us all. It’s been years since we’ve been able to properly see our families, friends and loved ones, and that is really difficult.”
“Just because someone doesn’t show pain on the outside, doesn’t mean they aren’t hurting. Giving everyone more options and the opportunity to talk about their mental health is the first step in trying to be okay.”
Those interested in watching his fight can do so on Fite TV through here.
Anyone looking for more information on the fight or sponsorships info can contact Kieper through his email or by phone at (250)571-4338. Sponsorships will be accepted until Jan. 10, though donations will be accepted until the end of the month.
