Jamili Family Refugee Sponsorship Group

We are fundraising to reunite an Afghan family with two of their adult children who are living in Saskatoon.

A mother and father made the agonizing decision to leave their home behind and seek safety with their three remaining children, aged 10 to 25.

They have no legal status where they are living so are unable to support themselves financially. They are facing a daily threat of deportation back to Afghanistan. If this family is found and sent back to Taliban territory, their lives will be under threat every day. They are of a religious and ethnic minority that is subjected to targeted attacks from the Taliban.

They are seeking to be reunited with their two children who are living in Saskatoon. In late 2021, Kamila, a young peace and climate activist who had bravely escaped Taliban rule in Kabul was sponsored a year after her escape. Her brother, Ali, fled Afghanistan in late 2021. Kamila and a sponsorship group worked hard to bring him to Saskatoon and he arrived in May 2023. The sponsorships of Kamila and Ali would not have been possible without the help of donations from people like you.

Kamila and Ali led the way and have shown their family what was possible in their new home. They are working hard to support their family and bring them to Saskatoon safely. Reuniting this family is an action towards peace and will bring comfort, safety, and hope. Fundraising Goals

Thanks to the incredible generosity of over 100 people in our community, we have almost reached our initial fundraising target and the minimum amount required for sponsorship. We are confident that we will be able to proceed with sponsorship if and when we get approved.

We recently decided to increase the fundraising total to $70,000. Since we have already raised $40,000 of our total; the goal of this fundraiser is to raise the remaining $30,000. The reasons for this increase are:
