When Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation confirmed the news in late May that the identified remains of 215 children - some as young as three years old - had been found buried in what was once Canada’s largest residential school, the country's heart sank. Collectively we were left with questions asking how could this have happened? Why did the truth take so long to come out? If these children have been found - there must be more?
Sadly, as the weeks have gone on this has become the sad truth. As of June 15th the remains of 572 children have been found in unmarked graves on the sites of five different schools.
Angered, moved and motivated by this, Teri and Dave have come together to dedicate a summer of movement in memory of the innocent children who have been lost, the survivors who have lived a life affected and the families who have lost an unimaginable amount.
After having conversations with respected members of the Indigenous community the agreed upon recommendation is to help raise funds for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. This Society’s mission is "to provide physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual growth, development, and healing through culturally-based values and guiding principles for survivors, families and communities."
We hope you can lend your support and help shift the dialogue towards the healing we all need to do together.
