About Fundraiser
Fundraiser by Andrew Cotterell
Crossing the Divide gives disadvantaged youth the opportunity to access the outdoors because getting out in nature fuels our mental, physical, social and emotional health. Collectively we can support Crossing the Divide in their mission to provide disadvantaged youth opportunities for personal growth through outdoor education.
What your donation will achieve!
$1000 - Pay for a 2 day trip for 3-4 youth
$250 - Pay for a Guide to lead a trip for one day of programming
$100 - Food and travel expenses for a group for the day
$58 - Match the average distance I will cover each day
$21 - Match the amount of days I'm hoping to complete GDT
$12 - One person stay at a Backcountry Campsite
Having the opportunity to be outside in nature has completely shaped my life. I'm so grateful to live in the Canadian Rockies and to be able to so easily access the mountains and the joy of recreating outside. For many youth though, getting outside, being in nature and being physically active is a challenge. Since 2019 I've been on the Board of Crossing the Divide, which provides disadvantaged youth opportunities for personal growth through outdoor education.
In July 2021 I'll set off on a great adventure, to hike The Great Divide Trail (GDT) in only 21 days, something no one has ever done before. I'll be wandering through the vast wilderness of the Canadian Rocky Mountains for more than 1100 kilometers. Adding to the challenge, the GDT is not officially designated and not always even an actual trail, sometimes merely a wilderness route.
UPDATE: I completed the trail in 20 days, 7 hours - beating the previous record by over 3 days! Thank you so much for all the support, it's been an incredible experience!
