Friends of the Golden & District Hospital was formed in 2015 when a group of families wanted to show support for the Hospital in a tangible way. The proceeds from previous fundraisers were used to purchase equipment in excess of the annual budget.
In 2020 the funds will be used to buy a Neonatal Cardiac Monitor and/or other equipment.
Dr Virginia Clark leads the Obstetrical team in Golden, which includes nurses, physicians, and a midwife, all certified in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation).
“We do not have the cardiac monitor that has been recommended as the standard of care for newborns. In Golden, we try to assess the baby’s heart rate by listening with a stethoscope which can be very difficult in a noisy room with much going on, and may prolong interruptions in chest compressions (fortunately a rare situation) and give inaccurate results.”
“The Neonatal Cardiac monitor provides a rapid and reliable method to constantly monitor the baby’s heart rate during the transition from fetal (inside Mom) to newborn (outside Mom). Having the correct equipment to perform resuscitation when needed can only benefit our community’s families.”
