**Raise Awareness and Support the Mental Health for Immigrant and Refugee Newcomers**
By donating to this cause, newcomers and refugees in need of mental health support would be able to access mental health services in a sustainable and more consistent ways. Recent research data suggests that each individual require 15- 20 continuous sessions on average to feel the improvements and to begin their journey of resiliency, and to power-up their resistance. American Psychological Association
If the average subsidized cost of counselling is $100 per session, and an individual is requiring a minimum of 10 sessions, the total funds per person is $1000. Therefore, my goal is to help 15 people to access adequate counselling and mental health support. I'd highly appreciate it if you can join me in making a difference in the lives of these new members of our Canadian community.
All the funds will be donated directly to CVIMS (Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society) to expand the funds allocated to cover counselling fees for CVIMS clients who are in need for mental health support in collaboration with Vancouver Island Counselling Center for Immigrants and Refugees (VICCIR).
I currently work for Central VI Multicultural Society as an Immigrant Settlement Worker, and I have witnessed the struggles of the settlement sector in meeting the needs of clients in accessing mental health services.
Legal status of newcomers, and insufficient funds are some of the barriers that prevent people from obtaining the help they need in order to settle, and improve their sense of belonging. My personal journey and experiences as a displaced person since 2012 was very challenging, and without the support from friends, mentors, and certain communities, I wouldn't be here today, and where I am now!
Your support is much appreciated!
With love and gratitude,
Hosam
