About my Personal Challenge
Every March, all SVP Teens members are challenged to individually fundraise on behalf of SVP Teens. Teens like myself are taking on a personal challenge, mine being that I will fold at least 150 origami cranes by the end of March—at least 5 cranes every day. Throughout the process, I’d love to have your cheers and support, or if you're feeling super generous, donations! For every dollar you donate, your name, someone else's name, a quote, or any other appropriate text that you choose, will be written on a crane (eg. if you donate $5, you can choose the text for 5 cranes). Even if I unfortunately raise $0, I will still be folding the cranes !! The only difference is that they will just remain blank.
Cranes for Cancer
My grandmother on my mother's side passed away from cancer when I was 3 years old. If you've ever heard of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, she is my inspiration for this fundraiser. Based on the true story of Sadako Sasaki, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes celebrates the extraordinary courage of a young woman with leukemia, cancer of the body's blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system. While my grandmother did not have leukemia specifically, I was inspired by Sadako's story and this is my way of remembering the relative who I did not get to really know before she was gone. This fundraiser is dedicated to her, as well as the estimated 9.5 million people who die of cancer worldwide every year.
How to Support Me
Please donate to support this fundraiser! Every dollar counts, and you can feel good knowing you’re helping a local youth-led initiative achieve our fundraising goal. I will be documenting my progress along the way, so if you want to follow along, check out @svpteens’s Instagram stories.
Who I'm Fundraising For
SVP Teens is a program of Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region (SVPWR) that unites some of the region’s most passionate youth to turn their ambitions into tangible action, create meaningful change in their communities, and inspire a life-long desire to give back. Every year, SVP Teens fundraises toward the SVP Teens Community Grant, which is awarded to a charity chosen by the teens in May.
