Compass Circle

Compass was formed by a diverse group of folks in Vancouver, BC whose shared passion and drive brought us together to  sponsor LGBTQ+ refugees through the Rainbow Refugee program. 

Our goal as a group is to support a transgender woman and her partner  from the Middle East to come to Canada. They have fled their home country  and are currently in a transit country where they cannot access asylum.  The transit country, as it was in their home country, continues to persecute people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and HIV+ status.  This queer couple cannot live openly, and must actively work to keep their sexual orientation and gender identities hidden. They live everyday without a sense of safety and security, and are in limbo while they continue to hope for a brighter future.  Compass wants to help them find a safe future here in Canada, and you can help us make this a reality. 

A Compass is used to help find paths, and  navigate through unfamiliar lands and seas. This idea resonates with us, and speaks to the shared sense of duty we feel to pay forward our privilege in order to provide protection, safety and support to our newcomers. We will be helping them with the immigration process and providing them with community support in acclimating to life here once they have arrived.

Every donor who supports our goal becomes a part of our team and plays a critical role in securing the life and safety of these refugees. As a group, Compass has committed to raising a minimum of $45,000 to sponsor this couple to resettle in Canada. Your donation will go toward covering living costs, shelter, food, etc. during their first year.
