Carden Challenge

On May 22/23, The Basketcases will be competing in the Biodiversity Category of The Carden Challenge.  

Within the circle used for the Carden Christmas Bird Count, we hope to list as many bird, mammal, herptile (reptiles and amphibians), butterfly and odonata (dragonfly and damselfly) species as possible in 24 hours.

Our team name, The Basketcases, is based on our surprising ability to be able to identify all three baskettails (dragonflies) in our first year of competition.  As well, we must be a little crazy to try to compete against the other teams in this category who have stacked their teams with experts.

We are in it to have fun, to learn and to raise money for The Couchiching Conservancy which does such a great job of protecting the Carden Alvar.

And now, I have to get back to studying those darned darners.  With spring finally on its way, the dragonflies will soon be swarming over the roads of Carden just waiting to be identified!
