On February 4th I would have been celebrating my son Benjamin's 28th birthday. Unfortunately, we lost him to an opioid overdose in 2016.
For the last 4 years and on his birthday my daughter and I have been doing a 12 hr walk on the Birchwood trails in Fort McMurray to honor his memory and to celebrate and honour the sweet young man he was!
Why do we do it? We do it because we wanted to turn our tragedy into something positive and because we would like to raise awareness about the importance of mental wellness, the need to generate more conversations about it and the positive impact of physical activity on our mental health.
Just last year in our Province we lost almost 4 people a day to an opioid overdose.
We are asking for two things please:
1. That you make a moment to join us at the Birchwood trails or from wherever you may be for a walk , run or any kind of a physical activity
And 2. That you donate anything you can to support the Fort McMurray or the Calgary mental health associations and the links are provided below.
Please join us on Feb 4 at the Birchwood trails in Fort McMurray or from wherever you may be by going for a walk, run or any kind of a physical activity.
Thank you!
