Hope for HD Walk

Hi my name is Jayme Chute and I am the founder of the the Hirschsprung's Heroes Family Support Network.  My husband Mike and our youngest daughter Haylie were both born with Hirschsprung's Disease (HD), a life-threatening disease of the bowel.

Sadly, there is currently NO CURE for Hirschsprung's Disease and more research is needed to better understand the disease and its long-term implications for patients. Advocating and Fundraising for research to find a cure for Hirschsprung’s disease is a cause that is very close to my heart.

Before Haylie was born, I never knew how hard it would be, to watch someone you love, especially your tiny, beautiful, perfect baby, suffer in pain for hours, days, weeks, years and not be able to take their pain away. In six years, Haylie has had 30 surgical procedures in the operating room and has spent over 220 nights in Winnipeg Children’s Hospital.

As parents, we take comfort in knowing that if our babies are sick, we can take them to the doctor and they will know what to do to make them feel better. We trust that they know all the answers and that they can take all their pain and suffering away. But when the doctors don’t have all the answers we need them to and they aren’t able to take the pain away, it’s a helpless feeling. It’s a feeling I will never forget and it’s a feeling that no parent should ever have to live with.

I founded the Hirschsprung's Heroes Family Support Network so that we can continue to ADVOCATE. Advocate for more awareness of Hirschsprung’s disease. Advocate for more resources and support for families. Advocate for more research to better understand the disease and to find a cure and better the lives of people living with Hirschsprung’s disease.

Once a year, we rally together to advocate and show support for ALL our HD heroes.
