4th Annual Jacob Ranton Memorial Basketball Tournament

It is time to start planning for our 4th Annual Jacob Ranton Memorial Basketball Tournament in support of the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council (WRSPC). We are looking forward to dialoguing about mental health and continuing to promote the message that it is "OK to not be OK".  When we are willing to reach out, we can get the help and support we need to thrive again! Over the last 3 years, we have been able to raise approximately $110,000 for the WRSPC.  This would not be possible without the support of our family, friends, the basketball community and the citizens of Waterloo Region.  These funds assist the WRSPC in achieving their mission to reduce suicidal behaviour and its impact on individuals, family and communities.

We have learned over the 4 years that Jacob has been gone, that he died of a “life threatening” illness. In fact, suicide is the 2^nd leading cause of death among our youth. This year, we are honoured to have a special guest, Clint Malarchuk, join our tournament.  Clint is a dynamic speaker, former NHL goalie and coach, suicide survivor, and mental health advocate.  His story tells of his journey through PTSD, anxiety, depression, and alcohol dependency.  However, it is the story of his resilience that will have a true affect on the audience.  He will speak to all 220 athletes participating as well as a ticketed audience.  We hope that you can join us at 10 am on Friday, December 14th to hear his story.  We thank PPI Benefits for their generosity in helping bring Clint to the tournament.  All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to WRSPC.  Get your tickets here !

This year’s tournament is to be held on December 14^th and 15^th, co-hosted by Waterloo Collegiate and Bluevale. We will continue the silent auction this year and hope that we can make it even bigger and better than last year!
