24 HOURS OF HEROES NOV 10 11 AM -NOV11 11AM
“ Honour the fallen. Help the living”
-Wounded Warriors Canada
Gordon Hicks, Canadian Forces veteran (Gulf War and Bosnia) and Bob Van Houwelingen, Ornge Air Ambulance Paramedic, invite you to support “24 Hours of Heroes 2017”.
Bob and Gord are both keenly aware of the impact that PTSD has had on the lives of First Responders, Military members and their families, and have experienced the loss of friends as a direct result.
Help them remember and make a difference.
History:
The 24 hours of Heroes event started in 2016 with 24 “hero” workouts- CrossFit style workouts that are written and performed to honour fallen service men and women to raise some money for Wounded Warriors of Canada- a charity that aids Veterans and First Responders suffering from PTSD. They are typically long and gruelling workouts, meant to make you really uncomfortable, but also to remind you of their ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and safety.
This year we have worked really hard to create workouts that honour fallen Canadian servicemen and women*, as well as represent the First Responder communities. (*with the exception of the final workout, “Murph”)
From 2003-2012, 295 Canadian Veterans died by suicide.
In 2016, 68 Canadian First Responders took their own lives.
Goal Surpassed:
The past two years we have been able to raise over $18000.00 for Wounded Warriors Canada.Forging ahead this year we are rallying gyms from around the country to compete with us and in doing this help raise awareness and more money for WWC
Forging Ahead:
Continuing their partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada, Cheri, Gord and Bob are planning some exciting changes to the format from last year. In addition to the online donations, a raffle, silent auction, and a $20.00 donation to participate in a work out, they are adding a midnight to 6:00 am Ruck March Challenge to remember the 196 Military and First Responders who struggled with PTSD and took their own lives, since 2014 (“About the Campaign,” ivegotyourback911)
The Vision for 2018:
Rally the community once again to “work, sweat, honour and remember together”.
Raise money and awareness for Wounded Warriors Canada to fund the training of a PTSD Service Dog. Raise awareness and support for First Responders, Military, and their families struggling with PTSD.
