This year for the 10th anniversary of GivingTuesday on November 29th, Canadians proved yet again that they are generous and passionate about supporting the charities and causes that are close to their hearts.
In just 24 hours, Canadians raised $13 million on CanadaHelps to support over 9,183 charities!
This year charities have been struggling with an increased demand caused by inflation and the rise in the cost of living. More and more Canadians are turning to food banks, and 1 in 4 people have said they may rely on charities for their basic necessities. That said, the donations made on GivingTuesday will help some charities stay afloat. Just think about the thousands of children who will receive access to education and after-school programming, the pets and wildlife who will receive rehabilitation and care, and environmental programs that have been funded, not to mention the Canadian charities providing life-saving services and humanitarian relief that fuel change globally.
This year, we offered two ways to make a huge difference by giving donors a chance to win a $5,000 charity gift card that gave the winner the opportunity to choose the impact they want to make on charities and Unite for Change’s cause funds. Every dollar donated was an entry to win the grand prize – a huge congratulations to Michael C. from Ontario for winning! Plus, to help Canadians make an even bigger impact, we surprised donors by boosting donations made on GivingTuesday through CanadaHelps by 1%!
However, GivingTuesday isn’t just about giving monetary gifts! In fact, everyone can and should participate in this global movement. The purpose of the day is all about generosity and acts of kindness, and there is no act too small to make a difference. This year, we even shared 12 ways to make an impact for this holiday season, which includes all types of contributions like giving blood and volunteering, plus more! While making donations to charities and causes is transformative, not everyone has the means to do so. It’s all about doing what you can to make the world a better place.
Again, at CanadaHelps, we are so thankful for all Canadians doing their part and helping the charitable sector to do the invaluable work they do. Save the date for 2023 when GivingTuesday is on Tuesday, November 28, 2023!
