British Columbia is experiencing its worst wildfire season in recorded history, and the impact has been disastrous. Since April, over 1,000 wildfires and three million acres of land have been burned, displacing thousands of residents, with more than 3,500 residents on evacuation alerts as of July 24. Hundreds of homes and critical infrastructure have been damaged, including roads that are used to access Indigenous communities. Firefighters have been continuously working around the clock ever since in an attempt to suppress the devastation, putting their lives at risk. Sadly, there are months of peak wildfire season remaining in British Columbia, which will make it even more challenging to recover.
