Donate to the Shubenacadie Canal Commission

The Shubenacadie Canal Commission was founded in 1986 with a mission to preserve and promote the unique natural and historical features of the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway. We administer, maintain, and work to restore historical sites and parks at various locations along the 114 km waterway, including several 19th-century canal locks and the fully reconstructed Shubenacadie Canal Marine Railway in Dartmouth. We also provide free educational programming and guided tours, both at the Fairbanks Centre in Shubie Park and at other sites.

The Commission was created by an act of the Nova Scotia Legislature. While we do receive an operating grant from the Province of Nova Scotia, we rely on donors like you for all of our activities beyond keeping the lights on. This includes historical restoration and reconstruction, development of new sites and recreational opportunities, and expanding our educational resources.
