Friends and Neighbours Group presents Tanya Talaga

Tanya Talaga is a visionary for Canada’s reconciliation journey and one of the most sought-after keynote speakers in the country, sharing messages of truth, hope and Indigenous inclusion.

Based on her bestselling book All Our Relations: Finding the Path Forward, Tanya shared the message of the emergence of Indigenous suicide in Canada as part of the 2018 Massey Lectures. Her previous book, Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death and Hard Truths in a Northern City, shared the heart-breaking story of Indigenous youth killed in Thunder Bay.

The Friends and Neighbours Group will present an online lecture by Talaga on Wednesday, October 6, at 7 p.m. All donations raised as part of this event will support the Woodland Cultural Centre’s Save the Evidence campaign. The decision to raise funds to renovate the former Mohawk Institute Residential School in Brantford into an interpretive heritage site to educate about Canada's residential school history will ensure that the story will continue to be told in that setting.

Consisting of members and volunteers from the broader community, the Friends and Neighbours Group supports the Woodland Cultural Centre’s Save the Evidence campaign through fundraising and awareness-raising events. The annual series of lectures, in partnership with Wilfred Laurier University, is meant to educate, while encouraging greater understanding that may help lead to meaningful dialogue.

“As I grew up just outside of Brantford, it seems only right to contribute to such a worthwhile cause. Thank you for the education and for all the work that you continue to do.”
