Why We Are Choosing to All Stand Together
As Indigenous children are recovered at the sites of once residential schools across Canada, we are encouraging communities large and small to come together to honour and propel the voices of those impacted by the Indigenous Residential School System in Canada. Our circle consists of indigenous and non-Indigenous members that banded together with the intent to raise awareness and create space for past and current injustices and inequalities toward our Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island and Canada. We aim to continue to uncover the truth, to learn, listen, raise money and awareness for the Save the Evidence Campaign in collaboration with the Woodland Cultural Centre. We want YOU to stand with us.
How We Will All Stand Together
Monday, Sept 27 through and till Tuesday, Novemeber 30th we are asking members of our community to join us in making space, getting active and learning more. We would like to honour this movement the best way we know how: with movement. Pledge your fitness community, gym, studio, group of friends or family to participate in 21.5 minutes or more of physical activity that dedicates to raise funds for the Save the Evidence Campaign. Register your Team on this page and share how you are moving together! If you would like to use the Save the Evidence Campaign Logo for your event, please email ste@woodlandculturalcentre.ca and tell them you are participating in the Skáhne Tetewà:ta'ne - We All Stand Together event.
By those that participate pledging to raise or make donations of $2.15, $21.50, $215.00 or $2,150.00, it is our hope to collectively honour the number of souls found in the recovery at the Kamloops Indian Residential School and every search and recovery that followed. More than 1,000, and counting, unmarked children's graves and remains have been identified at former Indigenous residential boarding schools. This is a third-party fundraiser, for which tax receipts are available. Money raised is entirely being directed to the phase four restoration of the Mohawk Institute and their interpretive educational centre through the Save the Evidence Campaign. To learn more about the save the evidence campaign and Mohawk institute restoration visit the Woodland Cultural Centre’s website. The Mohawk Institute was Canada’s first residential school and operated from 1831 to June 27, 1970.
