All of you who know me, know I dislike walking and rarely join a 'walk'. But on November 30th, I am joining, with other women in the Kitchener Waterloo Business Women's Association, in Voices Empower: Walk to Break the Silence, a 6km walk to raise funds and awareness for Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region. This awesome organization helps women and children in our community experiencing domestic violence. I might not like walking, but I am enraged by violence against women and this is the one small thing I can do, in my community, to help.
The increase and escalation of violence against women calls for action. Thirty-two femicides were committed in the first 6 months of 2024 in Ontario alone. This is NOT ok. Violence against women and children, is loathsome, cowardly and evil. It creates lifelong damage that carries over into the next generation and the effects are felt throughout our communities.
