On November 18th, I am joining Voices Empower: Walk to Break the Silence, a 6 km walk to raise funds and awareness for Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region to support women and children in our community experiencing domestic violence.
I have worked at Women's Crisis Services for more than five years now. Through our podcast, She Is Your Neighbour, I've had the opportunity to speak with brave women who have experienced intimate partner violence and hear their stories. I have also heard from sons, daughters, nephews, friends, journalists and others who have been impacted by domestic violence. It is a pervasive issue that impacts people far and wide, from different neighbourhoods and backgrounds.
Over 40 municipalities have now declared intimate partner violence an epidemic. And in the first 30 weeks of 2023, 30 women were killed by an intimate partner. We must continue raising funds and awareness to prevent these tragedies from happening.
