WENDAT COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

about

Since 1988 Wendat Community Programs has provided high quality care, treatment and rehabilitation services to both frail elderly and to persons experiencing a mental illness. The organization has won numerous awards for excellence in service delivery, financial/business management, contribution to the well-being of the community and leadership.  In 2001, Wendat was ranked one of the top rehabilitation programs in the world by a 5 year study funded through the World Health Organization.  Professionals from as far away as Sweden have travelled to Midland, Ontario to visit and learn from Wendat Community Programs.

Within their two divisions of services, Wendat provides eleven different programs. Some services are delivered within the Midland-Penetanguishene Ontario area and others are provided regionally across Simcoe County and Muskoka.   For the frail elderly, Wendat has a structured day program (with transportation), congregate dining program (with transportation), assisted living service, mobile social work service and a behaviour nursing program called Transition Service.  Wendat has just built one of Ontario's first truly affordable assisted living facilities called the Lorna Tomlinson Residence for Seniors.  The Residence is located in Penetanguishene Ontario and opened in February 2016.  Eligibility is restricted to frail seniors who are of low income with preference given to those 75 years of age or over.

The second division of services focuses on persons with a mental illness or mental health concern.  Programs addressing these health issues include Crisis Services provided in the ER at Georgian Bay General Hospital,  (24/7)Intensive Case Management provided in the clients own home, Brief Service/Support, Housing Services, Social Club (social recreation drop-in program with transportation), and Supported Employment.

Wendat helps close to 2,000 persons annually.

The organizations Mission is to provide high quality care, treatment and rehabilitation services to both frail elderly and to persons experiencing a mental illness who are living in the North Simcoe-Muskoka area.  Our Vision is to empower people to achieve their optimal health and well being in the community where they live, work and socialize.

Wendat Community Programs is an organization that is responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.  Our values include excellence (high quality service), dignity (respect the inherent worth of every individual), accessibility (increased availability during traditional and non-traditional times), integrity (ethical, transparent, accountable), partnership (collaborative response with stakeholders), leadership (advancement of innovative practices) and a positive working environment.
