We are the Villagers

about

Our Mandate

We are a Canadian Registered Charity whose objectives are to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged children ages 3-16 and provide access to recreation, arts, and cultural programs. Our mandate is to help build healthy, vibrant communities which accommodate, celebrate, and embrace marginalized children so they feel connected to, and can become integral parts of their community. We believe that “it takes a village to raise a child”

Our Mission

WE ARE THE VILLAGERS builds upon our six pillars--to nurture, support, inspire, motivate, validate and bring joy--designed to be our touchstone to ensure that we are mindful of the manner in which we promote well-being. Our intention is to prioritize children's needs, to follow their lead, and assist them towards self-actualization.  Our pillars will guide our actions and efforts to make children feel safe to explore, self-direct, thrive, and maximize their potential. It is through support of children that we aim to close the gap created by systemic marginalization so that they can develop confidence, skills, and leadership abilities over time.

Our Impact

"We are the Villagers has helped my own dreams come true. It feels great to give back and really does take a village to raise kids.” WATV participant and volunteer

"I hope you know you made one child so happy and excited with all his problems he has overcome.  It’s so great you are giving him an opportunity that I probably would not have been able to." WATV Parent

“We were fortunate enough to have had your help with providing a laptop for my 11-year-old daughter to do her school work on instead of my cell phone. It made things a lot easier. Not only was my daughter able to do her school work she has shown me how to use some of the programs she has learned at school. It was learning for her and for myself as well.” WATV Parent

The YMCA Peace Medal celebrates members of your community who inspire us to join them in creating a more peaceful world.  Founders Julianna Matyas and Geoffrey Crompton were pleased to be recognized by the YMCA for contributing to this effort through WE ARE THE VILLAGERS.
