Dear Friends of the VOCA Chorus of Toronto,
Like performing arts organizations worldwide, choral ensembles have been deeply affected by COVID-19. VOCA is no exception. It is a huge challenge to develop meaningful programming in the midst of an uncertain future presented to us by this global pandemic. The health of our singers and audience members is our top priority, and our plans have been, and will continue to be guided by up-to-date health protocols. As we continue to adjust to these challenging times, we would like to share a message of optimism.
Over these past several months, we've been holding online Zoom sessions - with the invaluable help of our entire artistic staff: artistic director Jenny Crober, accompanist Elizabeth Acker and all 6 of our professional leads - to continue to provide crucial connections with our members through a wide variety of online activities. These 'musical meet-ups', which have been attended by the vast majority of our members, have included a variety of sessions focussing on vocal warm-ups, technique, diction, ear training, sight singing, vocal bodywork, yoga and learning new repertoire. We've also welcomed special guests including composers, guest artists and others to some of these virtual events. We're thrilled to be preparing for our 12th Annual - and 1st online - Spring Cabaret (Saturday, March 5th).
Our heartfelt hope, if health protocols will allow, is that this Spring we will return to in-person events with our twice delayed Spring "Star Songs" Concert in April, 2022. In trying times like these, music is vital as a source of comfort, inspiration and most of all, hope. We are reaching out to thank you for your ongoing support of the VOCA Chorus of Toronto, and would be most grateful if you would consider a gift to our choir at this crucial and unprecedented time to help support our ongoing activities.
