Our Mission

The mandate of Vancouver Moving Theatre Society is to create innovative, accessible interdisciplinary theatre; multi-disciplinary events and festivals; educational resources, and community-engaged art influenced by Vancouver’s Pacific Rim culture.

These productions and activities are produced in a spirit of collaboration, cooperation, community building, and communtiy led renewal throught the arts.

About VANCOUVER MOVING THEATRE SOCIETY

Vancouver Moving Theatre (VMT) is an award winning Downtown Eastside based professional theatre company.

VMT is recognized for innovative arts- based community development projects tailored with and for its inner-city community of the DTES - including The Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival, which promotes the neighbourhood’s cultures, history, concerns, art and great stories.

Past highlights include the ground breaking 'Downtown Eastside Community Play' (2003); the innovative 'We’re All In This Together', a shadow play exploring the roots of addiction; and the comic tragedy A Downtown Eastside Romeo and Juliet(2008).

In recognition of its arts based community development work with the Downtown Eastside, VMT was recently presented with the City of Vancouver Cultural Harmony Award (2008), while Mr. Hunter and Ms Walling were presented with the British Columbia Community Achievement Award (2008) and the City of Vancouver Mayor’s Award (2009) in Community Art.
