Every year, Vancouver’s 20,000 fruit trees produce hundreds of thousands of pounds of fruit. Much of this fruit is left unpicked on the ground. Meanwhile, one in ten households and one in six children under the age of 18 experience food insecurity to some degree in British Columbia*.
By making sure no backyard fruit goes to waste, the Vancouver Fruit Tree Project is increasing food security in our neighbourhoods by making local, fresh fruit accessible to our 10+ community partners and the 4,000+ individuals they serve in Vancouver.
We envision a food secure Vancouver where everyone has access to fresh, local fruit, and the environmental impact of food waste is minimized.
