By supporting self-advocates, we support people with disabilities in taking the lead in building a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Self Advocates take on vital community initiatives surrounding inclusion, equity, and accessibility, to ensure these are not just ideals, but realities. Being a member of SAS has transformed Natalie from a silent and withdrawn young woman, into a confident speaker with a vibrant personality. Over the past year, her family has noticed a dramatic shift, as she now embraces opportunities to share her voice. Natalie felt confident enough to make a speech at her sister’s wedding, which was really well received, in addition to making the speech in Nanaimo for 50 + people at Inclusion BC, something she never would have attempted before.

As an underfunded service, SAS relies heavily on the generosity of our community to continue offering their services. SAS is a dynamic group of self-advocates who are passionate about making a difference in their communities. Through their collective voice, they advocate for change, challenge systemic barriers, and empower people UNITI supports.
