Your help is urgently needed for Rohingya refugees.
In August 2017, over 750,000 Rohingya children, women and men fled to Bangladesh following violent military crackdowns in Myanmar's Rakhine State.
Most walked for days through jungles and mountains, or braved dangerous sea voyages across the Bay of Bengal. They arrived exhausted, hungry and sick – in need of international protection and humanitarian assistance.
Today, nearly 1 million Rohingya refugees live in Bangladesh, most of them in Cox's Bazar district, which is the world’s largest refugee settlement. More than six years on from the latest influx from Myanmar, this is also one of the world's largest protracted refugee situations.
Living conditions in the densely populated camps are dire, particularly for women and children who are vulnerable to violence, exploitation, and human trafficking.
Between June and October, the monsoon season brings intense rainfall and strong winds, elevating the risk of floods and landslides. During the rainy season, refugees living in overcrowded camps and lacking proper water and sanitation facilities are also at heightened risk from water-borne diseases such as hepatitis, acute diarrhea and dengue.
UNHCR is on the ground in Bangladesh providing lifesaving aid, but resources are stretched thin. You can help rush critical assistance including food, clean water, medicine and tents to Rohingya refugees.
Your gift today will ensure we are ready to respond to the challenges of these layered emergencies.
Please make a generous gift today and provide Rohingya refugees with the support they need. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
