Una Voce Canada | Vancouver Traditional Mass Society

about

The Vancouver Traditional Mass Society (VTMS) is an association of Catholic lay faithful dedicated to promoting the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM - Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite). The VTMS is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The Society was formed on July 13, 1989, and is incorporated as a charitable society under the laws of the Province of British Columbia. In October 1995, the VTMS was accepted as a member organization of the Foederatio Internationalis Una Voce (FIUV), representing Canada (hence the VTMS is also known as Una Voce Canada (UVC)).

Una Voce Canada is now an Extraordinary Member organization of FIUV and has a representative on the Council.

As a member organization of FIUV, we support the aims of Una Voce movement:

  • to work as a lay movement within the Church for an organic restoration of the liturgy in conformity with its nature and with the Latin tradition
  • to ensure that the traditional Roman Mass as codified in the Missale Romanum edited by Pope St. John XXIII is maintained – both in practice and in law – as one of the forms of Eucharistic celebration which are recognized and honoured in universal liturgical life
  • to obtain freedom of use for all other Roman liturgical books enshrining “previous liturgical and disciplinary forms of the Latin tradition” (cf. Ecclesia Dei, n.5)
  • to safeguard and promote the use of Latin, Gregorian chant, and sacred polyphony in the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church
  • to actively encourage the establishment of non-territorial parishes and/or chaplaincies in which only the liturgical books used in 1962 are employed
  • to serve the Church by helping the members of the movement and, through their apostolate, all Christifideles better to understand, and more fruitfully to participate in, the Catholic liturgy as a sacred action

UVC also:

  • forms Chapter Organizations across Canada helping them get access to the TLM. We also seek to raise interest and to educate people about the history, spirituality, and theology of the TLM.
  • produces yearly 6  newsletter and 6 online publications that educates and keeps our members informed about various aspects of Traditional Catholicism.
  • financially supports all Canadian seminarians in the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) and at the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest (ICRSS).
  • supports music programs of Gregorian chant and Sacred polyphony.
  • has 500 Masses offered every year for our members and benefactors, the Holy Souls in Purgatory, priests and seminarians, establishment of the TLM in all dioceses in Canada and for the St. Monica Society
  • established the St. Monica Society a membership benefit. Members send in the names of families or individuals and 52 Masses are offered every year for their conversion to or return to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
